Yumi is a Ph.D. candidate in the department of political science at MIT. Her main research areas are the political economy of redistribution and institutions. She is currently working on her dissertation, which examines the politics behind poor relief in advanced industrial countries. Her research has been funded by the Center for International Studies and the Social Science Research Council. Prior to joining MIT, she obtained her master's degree at Columbia University, where she specialized in international economics, and later worked as a financial-economic analyst at Nomura Securities & Research in New York.
