Political Science & Mathematics

Yiliu Zhang

Hello! My name is Yiliu, a rising senior double majoring in political science and mathematics.

For my years at MIT, I want an education that is quantitatively focused on real-world issues. To that end, MIT's Political Science department has made such experience possible through the availability of top-notch faculty, courses, internships and research. The strength and flexibility of the major led to a variety of opportunities.

During the summer after my freshman year, I collaborated with fellow MIT students to film a documentary highlighting the struggles of migrant workers in Shenzhen. The following summer I worked in Washington DC covering advanced manufacturing and clean energy policies. Currently, I volunteer for an organization that spotlight human right abuses in the Congo through photography, in order to raise awareness and funding for non-profits. In the private sector, being a political science major from MIT has led to internships in venture capital and investment banking.

Looking back, I'm very happy that I chose a curriculum that has developed my analytical and communication skills, both of which in my opinion will be crucial for life after MIT.
