Dr. Susan Hockfield was elected the 16th President of MIT by the Corporation,
MIT's board of trustees, on August 26, 2004. Her election marked the
culmination of a search that began when President Charles M. Vest announced
on December 5, 2003 his decision to step down from the presidency during
the 2004-05 academic year. The search was carried out by the Corporation
Committee on the Presidency and the Faculty Advisory
Committee to the Corporation. These committees worked closely together throughout the search.
This web site served the MIT community throughout the search. It
was dedicated to offering a voice to all members and friends of the MIT
community in the search, and to providing information about the selection
process. On these pages, you will find information about the
search process, as well as a comment form that allows your ideas and suggestions
to be conveyed to the committees.
We thank you for visiting this site, and for your interest in the search
process.
