The MIT Professional Education - Advanced Study Program admits individuals who have the academic and professional background to succeed at MIT-level academic work. Students are admitted based on the overall quality of the application.
Application forms
Prospective students may submit an application by filling out the form online or by printing the form (PDF) and then faxing or mailing it to the MIT Professional Education office. Applications must also include these documents:
- Non-refundable application fee of $75.00
- Resume or CV
- Statement of applicant’s educational objective
- Preliminary list of courses
- Official college(s) transcript(s) – originals
- One letter of nomination confirming financial support from company*
- Two current letters of recommendation – supervisor, college professor, or colleague
- Official TOEFL or other valid exam score if English is a second language
- * If self-supporting, you must provide a bank letter/statement indicating funds available.

Application timetable
Applications may be submitted up to nine months before the semester in which the student wishes to begin. Acceptance letters are typically mailed within two weeks of receipt of all materials. Application deadlines are mid-August and mid-January for U.S. applicants; first of July and December for applicants requiring visas. For exact dates, see Costs & Dates.
International applications
Applicants who require U.S. student visas must register for full-time enrollment (at least three courses/36 credits). Applicants currently in the U.S. on a work visa are limited to one course per semester. TOEFL scores (577 for paper-based test, 233 for the computer-based test, or 100 for internet-based test) must be submitted if an applicant's instruction in high school or college was not in English.
