Special Seminar in International Management - India

During the Spring of 2003, about two dozen MBA students from MIT Sloan School of Management enrolled in a Special Course related to India and spent 10 days in India. During this trip, they met with very senior persons in India, including Dr. Abdul Kalam (Honorable President of India), Dr. Arun Shourie (Honoroable Minister for Information Technology, Telecommunications, and Disinvestments), and several heads of major international corporations.

Dr. Amar Gupta, Co-Director of the PROFIT Initiative at the MIT Sloan School, served as the Faculty Advisor for this course. The course was an extraordinary experience for everyone based on the number and the status of the individuals who agreed to meet with the group in India, and the feedback received from the MBA students who come from 4 continents of the world. A few of the reactions from these students on the India experience, as well as on the course itself, are reproduced below:

"I thoroughly enjoyed this course and my journey to one of the most fascinating places that I have ever been! It has also placed a priceless international stamp on my MBA and business school experience which I will savor for many years to come."

"The class was a lot of fun and the trip, without a doubt, has been the highlight of my Sloan experience. Thanks very much for organizing the pre-travel lectures, and for sharing your insights and passion about India."

"Our trip to India was an amazing experience. The organizers did a great job and we had a terrific learning experience. Thank you very much for everything, this class has been one of the most enjoyable of year."

"Thank you very much for a fantastic seminar. I cannot wait to return to India!"

"This spring break's trip to India was one of the things that I will remember most about Sloan. It was a great opportunity to learn about so many different aspects of the country, from business to government to the history of its leaders, etc. Thanks for hosting this seminar!"

"I really enjoyed the class and trip and hope we can keep in touch in the future."

The course online is available online. Also, each student was required to write a paper as part of the course. These papers, accessible online, present the unedited version of the students' perspectives on India.
