February 5th, 2007: First ROCCA DAY at the Milan POLITECNICO
In keeping with the Progetto Rocca’s policy of alternating its major yearly event between MIT and Politecnico, this year’s Rocca Day was held at the Milan Politecnico.,
The Aula Magna at the Politecnico
Politecnico President Giulio Ballio and dr. Gianfelice Rocca, Chairman of the Techint Group, described the roots and the purpose of “The Progetto Rocca A Bridge between MIT and Politecnico," to the numerous Politecnico students and researchers who had convened the Aula Magna. The Progetto, they explained, is a unique initiative in the Italian landscape which, following Dr Roberto Rocca’s path, intends to build on the best of what both schools have to offer in order to create a group of globally recognized Fellows. In discussing MIT excellence Francesco Stellacci—MIT Associate Professor in Materials Science and Politecnico alumnus—linked it to how membership in the community is subordinated to the commitment, and the ability, to make a difference in the world.
Giulio Ballio, Gianfelice Rocca and Serenella Sferza
The meeting concluded with a round table in which 2005-06 Progetto Rocca Fellows discussed the pros and cons of their stays at MIT and at Politecnico, and answered questions from the audience. Dr Serenella Sferza, MIT-Italy Program Co-director and Progetto Rocca Advisory Board Member moderated.
