MacVicar Day 2009
March 6, 2009 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM
Panel Discussion 9-057 followed by a reception in Lobby 9
The MacVicar Faculty Fellows Program was named to honor the life and contributions of Margaret MacVicar, Professor of Physical Science and Dean for Undergraduate Education at the time of her death in 1991. MacVicar Day 2009 will be celebrated on Friday, March 6th. The new 2009 Fellows will be announced at an MIT faculty reception hosted by President Hockfield on the evening of March 5th.
To celebrate undergraduate education and recognize educational innovation at the Institute, the MacVicar Faculty Fellows are sponsoring an afternoon program open to all members of the MIT community titled, "New Directions in General Education @MIT." Members of a faculty panel will discuss projects and new subjects on which they have been working. Audience Q&A is encouraged to share ideas that can inform new developments in teaching and learning.
Panel members include: Denny Freeman (EECS), Haynes Miller (Math), Alex Techet (MechE), Janet Sonenberg (Theatre Arts).
The panel will be immediately followed by a reception in Lobby 9. Attendees will have an opportunity to watch videos and observe demonstrations created by the panelists to showcase some of their work. Light refreshments will be served.
