Description of Research
Dr. Johnson's research interests have focused mainly on the reuse of waste water treatment sludges and the treatment of hazardous substances. During the past five years his research has included the refinement of composting technology for the treatment of contaminated soils, chemical oxidation and cometabolic transformation of explosive contaminated wastes, biodegradation of fuel contaminated ground water, the evaluation of environmental policy issues in relation to minorities and development of environmental curricula. He recently served as co-chair ( with Dr. Walter J. Weber, Jr., The University of Michigan) of the Association of Environmental Engineering Professors' Research Needs Conference. Currently, he serves as Assistant Director of the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic Hazardous Substance Research Center and U. S. EPA Center serving Regions 3 and 5 (participating schools include The University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Howard University).
