project name

Report of the Treasurer

MIT client

Treasurer's Office

date

October 2002

audience

Members of the MIT Corporation, alumni

goals

Create a more professional-looking report to enhance readability of financial data. Evaluate internal and external roles of team members to allow the client to focus on the editorial portion of the report instead of on the visual aspects. Evaluate the cover design to promote association of this publication with a suite of related publications produced by other MIT offices.

strategy

Hire a professional designer to create a new page layout and work with the client to develop the best presentation of financial data. PSB donated design services for the cover and used common visual cues to indicate the relationship to the companion publication, the President's Report.

benefits

The new design made the publication much more readable, and the cover carried a graphic identity that related to the President's Report.

specifications

28 pages + cover, printed on 80# coated gloss cover stock with 2 PMS colors and gloss varnish and 60# opaque smooth text stock with black ink on both sides.

vendor team

Cover design: Publishing Services Bureau
Text design and production: Allison Associates
Photography: Stuart Darsch
Printing: Next Generation Printing

PSB role

Suggested the strategy of having a professional production house design and format the text, donated the design of the cover, and solicited print bids.
