project name |
Program in Science, Technology & Society identity and business papers |
MIT client |
Program in Science, Technology & Society (STS) |
date |
September 2003 |
audience |
STS faculty, staff, students, and prospective undergraduate and graduate candidates |
goals |
Develop one unifying mark for the program's marketing materials, lecture materials, and website, which would replace all previous logo variations used since the founding of the program in 1976. |
strategy |
Create a logo that both connects and overarches "science and technology" with "society" and works with the MIT identity. Combine an arch or connector above the acronym "sts" with a set of three building blocks on the bottom, signifying the elements of science, technology, and society. The logo also subtly refers to the shape of the MIT dome. |
benefits |
The program now has a clear and distinctive mark and color palette already printed and recognized on several lecture and recruitment pieces that unify STS without being too formal, corporate, or rigid. The new identity will continue to roll out over the coming months on the STS website, lecture materials, t-shirts / gifts, and department signage. |
