project name |
Environment at MIT website
http://web.mit.edu/environment/ |
MIT client |
Representatives from the eight organizations under the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) umbrella |
date |
January 2003 |
audience |
MIT community and people interested in environmental initiatives
|
goals |
As part of MIT's ongoing efforts to make the campus, surrounding community, and the world a greener place to live, develop a portal site to highlight MIT's environmental practices and initiatives. |
strategy |
The world expects MIT to be on the cutting edge of everything environmental, so the client team, design firm, and writers worked through many sitemapping sessions to ensure that the wealth of information the site linked to was put into familiar categories. EHS services and training, research and education, day-to-day recycling efforts, a calendar of ongoing events, and newsworthy stories are all available on the home page, providing easy access to all visitors. A distinct color palette and interesting imagery make the navigation clear, keeping the site to a minimum of levels so that visitors can easily browse through the site. |
benefits |
The site offers one clear access point to environmental initiatives and emphasizes that MIT's commitment to the environment is woven into every part of the Institute — research, teaching, coursework, operations, health and safety services, and the daily routines of faculty, staff, and students. |
