Lemelson-MIT Program website

MIT client |
Lemelson-MIT Program |
date |
January 2003 |
audience |
Grammar school, high school, and college students, educators, potential donors, public at large, media, corporate world, current and future inventors |
goals |
Redesign the existing site and feature clear entry points for visitors seeking information on the components of the Lemelson-MIT Program and the world of inventions. Find a way to engage visitors while at the site. Incorporate the colors of the newly designed logo / identity for the program and create an expanded color palette that isn't too corporate or childlike. |
strategy |
Bring energy to the site through the use of color, imagery, and a new navigation system that evoke a celebratory feel for invention and innovation. Create an interactive game that tests visitors' knowledge about inventors and inventions. |
benefits |
The corporate and educational sides of the website have equal weight and importance. Engaging content not only helps visitors find the information they seek, but also encourages and welcomes them to explore parts of the site they might not have considered in previous visits. The rotating images of inventors with their inventions on the home page give a more personal feel to the site. |

PSB role partnering with WCS |
Assisted the client team in selecting appropriate design firms to submit proposals for the project. Helped the client team develop a list of interview questions so that all of the potential vendors could be evaluated equally. WCS ensured that the website met all of MIT's programming requirements. |
