project name

Center for Cancer Research brochure

MIT client

Center for Cancer Research (CCR)

completed

October 2005

audience

Current and prospective donors, media and general public, prospective and current undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral students, alumni, legislators/government, and peer scientists and researchers

goals

Increase awareness of MIT's long-time role in cancer research, stimulate interest in CCR among potential high-end donors, increase media awareness and visibility of CCR, and raise money for a new building.

strategy

Create a large-format brochure with a provocative lead-in question that will stand out among the many printed materials received by high-end donors. Convey CCR's exceptional ability to study cancer due to their unique interdisciplinary approach, which includes integrating traditional biology with engineering, computer science, and technology with the study of cancer.

benefits

The brochure was completed in time to support increased awareness of CCR after the announcement that curing cancer would be one of MIT's three presidential initiatives. CCR was in the spotlight throughout 2006 after receiving major research grants from the National Cancer Institute and the Ludwig Fund, along with several prestigious awards to CCR faculty and researchers, which helped to build momentum for key fundraising opportunities.
