ORC identity, invitation, website, and brochure
http://web.mit.edu/orc/ |
MIT client |
Operations Research Center (ORC) |
completed |
February 2004-June 2006 |
audience |
Prospective students, current students, and ORC alumni |
goals |
Create a consistent identity for ORC and extend it through all communications materials, including business papers, the center's website, event invitation, and program brochure. |
strategy |
Create a minimalist, geometric logo that reflects the analytic nature of operations research and works well with the MIT identity. ORC is a multidisciplinary practice used in a wide range of industries, and as a result is sometimes difficult to define. For the website, feature rotating examples on the home page that explain the broad and diverse business problems solved through the use of operations research. The program brochure also has examples sprinkled throughout the piece.
|
benefits |
The new communications materials present the center in a professional manner and increase awareness of their program and interdisciplinary research. The redesigned website is much more robust and easier to navigate. The new site offers students a resource section, listings of seminars and events, and contact information for faculty, students, and alumni. |

PSB role |
Recommended that the client invest in a professionally designed identity by showing samples of successful implementations. Reviewed designer portfolios with the client and made recommendations based on budget and scope. For the website, created a site map to accommodate new sections and accurately reflect existing content. Partnered with WCS/DCAD to review the site's information architecture with the client. Recommended a developer to build the site and create templates. Worked with IS&T's usability team to coordinate accessibility, usability, and code reviews. Served as an advisor and liaison throughout.
