School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P) |
completed |
June 2006 |
audience |
Prospective graduate students, alumni, fellow scholars and educators, the media, and potential contributors |
goals |
Overhaul a site that had not been updated in over 10 years, a major priority prompted by the school's dean to increase the visibility of the school both inside and outside MIT. Make the site the public face of SA+P, and prominently feature student and faculty work. Serve as a portal to SA+P's five divisions and their subdivisions, defining the relationships of those divisions and increasing communications with current students, faculty, and staff. |
strategy |
Work with a design firm that has experience with architectural design, research, and educational website projects. Create a site where people and the work become the main focus, while the background imagery and color palettes play a supporting role to the achievements of SA+P.
|
benefits |
The home page provides an easy portal with minimal clicks to each of the school's five divisions, along with many different access points to the same information depending on the user's preferred experience. The home page also features a prominent rotating portfolio section that is easily updated by the SA+P webmaster, keeping the many achievements of the five divisions fresh and exciting. |
specifications |
Portal site that has a Flash-based home page with a changing array of people, projects, and activities from all five SA+P departments. The site also has an interactive world and expertise map for searching faculty research interests. The site is navigable at four plasma screens (collectively known as PLAZmA) in the halls of buildings 7 and 10. |
