PSB advisors tailor their project involvement to the needs our clients. We can stay involved from start to finish, or we can simply provide referrals to creative service vendors for you to contact directly. PSB's advising services are provided at no cost to you.
Our services include:
Advising on communications planning
- Meeting with you to understand your project needs.
- Helping to define the project scope, audiences, and relevant messages.
- Recommending ways to be environmentally conscious and cost effective.
- Providing ballpark estimates for various creative services.
- Recommending the types of publications to best achieve your goals.
Assessing and coordinating
- Qualifying Boston-area creative service vendors, including designers, illustrators, photographers, writers, printers, web designers, and developers.
- Meeting to review samples of work from vendors appropriate to the scope and goals of your project.
- Writing requests for proposals, which outline the background on your department, audience, client team, scope and deliverables, and look and feel.
- Analyzing estimates and providing recommendations.
- Facilitating vendor interviews.
- Assisting with developing a project schedule.
- Defining roles and responsibilities of the project team.
- Scheduling dates for the kickoff meeting and design presentations.
- Reviewing designs—on projects not only facilitated PSB, but also projects in which you are creating the design yourself or are working directly with a designer.
- Advising on proper use of the MIT graphic identity.
- For print projects, obtaining print estimates, reviewing proofs, and monitoring the job on press.
- For web projects, partnering with Departmental Consulting and Application Development (DCAD) for the creation of the site architecture, usability testing, and usability and accessibility reviews.
- Collaborating with other MIT internal resources as needed, including Mail Services and Copy Technology Centers.
Issuing purchase orders and contracts
- Issuing all purchase orders and contracts for creative services vendors for all MIT offices.
- Advising you in the procurement process and requirements.
PSB also provides fee-based graphic design services for a limited number of projects.
