A Message In Space

Answer: RENAISSANCE MAN

The viewscreen shows images of Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man wafting through space. Each man is dancing in the shape of a letter from the Sherlock Holmes story "The Adventure of the Dancing Men", in which the letters were coded into an alphabet of dancing men. (The eight dancing men specifically used, and the letters they represent, are shown below.)

This being recast into Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, the letters are all backwards, in the style of Da Vinci's renowned mirror writing. Flags held by the Vitruvian Man separate words, as in the story (and as suggested by looking in the "viewscreen"). So reading the men in mirror writing spells a loop of RENAISSANCE MAN.
