Solution to Payroll

by Cindy Keeler and Seth Kleinerman

The answers to the clues are words that can be pronounced (sometimes if you squint a bit) as a string of the names of English, Greek, and/or Hebrew letters: for instance, ROSY is "rho Z" and SHINNY is "shin E". Fill those letter strings into the crisscross grid (keeping in mind that some Greek and English letters look the same, and therefore are treated as the same letter for the purpose of filling the grid—so, for instance, in the grid, the letter N can be read as "nu" in one direction but as "en" in the other direction). The result is this:

The letters in the shaded cells in the grid, read off in order, are JAZ DRIVE MAKER. This clues the answer to the puzzle, which is appropriately IOMEGA.
