Answer: OWEN TEALE
Problem: Valentine’s Day Town/Arbor Day Town

The source material for this puzzle is the AI Weirdness tumblr (“Letting neural networks be weird”), whose proprietor Janelle Shane trains neural nets on assorted texts for comic effect. In this case, we’re looking at “New paint colors invented by neural network.” The source material is clued by the flavortext: the gallery owner is “letting [the artist] be weird.” The puzzle title also refers to both the well-known IBM AI Deep Blue and to color.

It’s important to identify the source material, because the AI has really not got the hang of color names yet, which makes the cryptic clues that follow a bit odd. For one thing, they’re lacking definitions (“colors you cannot even define”). For another, WLTLTTF BZT is not a terribly promising string, but there it is. Fortunately there are also a number of color names built from legitimate English words: CONK GREEN, STICKS RED, SANE GREEN, FLOWER, GRAY PUBIC, BANK BUTT, STONER BLUE. Googling even a few of these will lead you to the complete list. Because all the answers come from this fairly short list, clues are presented in alphabetical order by clue rather than by answer.

Once you’ve got all 27 clues solved, you’ll need to mix some paint. The paint splotches on the palette tell you how: for the first letter, subtract the red component of color 12 from the sum of the green component of color 2 and the blue component of color 15. (The RGB values needed are indicated in bold in the table below.) Interpret the result as ASCII, and you’ll be able to read off the answer: OWEN TEALE, almost but not quite a color.
