The flavor text points teams at the old Altered Beast arcade game. In that game, the protagonist transforms into the beasts (in order): wolf, dragon, bear, tiger, golden wolf.
Each "feeder" answer is an altered "beast": "beast" with three consecutive letters replaced. The replacement letters form the message.
