As one of the SIMLAB components, MITSIM provides TMS with real time surveillance data for simulated ATIS and ATMS operations. More specifically, at the end of each iteration or when a vehicle passes a particular detector, MITSIM checks whether any data should be sent to TMS and other supporting modules.
Sensor data such as traffic count, occupancy, and speed collected by point data sensors are reported at a given frequency (e.g. every 5 or 10 minutes) and logged into output files. Sensor ID and vehicle information such as vehicle ID, speed, etc. are reported each time a probe vehicle passes a point to point data sensor.
