March

15 The Institute for Community Research (ICR) in Hartford, CT is sponsoring
"Crossroads: Critical Issues in Community-Based Research Partnerships", a
national conference that will critically explore issues related to
community-based research partnerships, methodology, and methods of
dissemination. The conference will take place June 10-13, 2004 in Hartford,
CT.
ICR is currently accepting applications for workshop and panel discussion
proposals that address how class, ethnicity, race, gender, culture and power
impact research partnerships; gaps between communities and the institutions
that serve them (e.g., cultural institutions, schools, clinics, after-school
programs, political representatives); and ways that participatory or
collaborative research partnerships can remedy these and other cultural,
health, mental health, environmental and economic policy oriented problems.
Recognizing that community-based collaborative research (CBCR) is a growing
field, the conference is aimed at developing a critical analysis of current
approaches which move us to the next level in improving our relationships
and methods. The conference will explore and critique core dimensions of
CBCR in the following areas: Theory, Ethics, Methods, Skills, Use of
Research Results and Topical Issues. (See
http://www.incommunityresearch.org/news/CrossroadsConf/presentapps.htm for more information about Tracks and Session topics).

Deadline: 30 June 2004

Recognizes superior scholarship in a doctoral dissertation completed by a student enrolled in an ACSP-member school. Nominees must have received the doctoral degree in the two years preceding the deadline (May 2002 through June 2004). The work is expected to be presented at the 2004 ACSP Conference where the award is presented.

Un-Dated

The Journal of Planning Literature lists and abstracts new dissertations in its annotated list of articles and books in each issue.

Faculty, if one of your advisees recently completed a dissertation, please bounce this note to the student, or e-mail the information below for such students to jpl at osu.edu.

New Ph.D's: If you recently completed a dissertation (past quarter or so), please e-mail a word compatible file as an attachment to jpl@osu.edu.

The attachment should have (in sentence case, not caps)
the dissertation title your name institution where you completed the doctoral work year of completion, abstract of your dissertation (edited to less than 250 words). Up to five keywords (from JPL subject categories, if possible). This will also help Sage list your abstract in the appropriate category. Because Sage does the abstracting, I cannot track in which issue each dissertation abstract appears.
However, it will most likely appear two to three issues from now.
Thanks.
