The City of Cambridge

John F. Kennedy airport, New York City.  The American Airlines desk at about 6:00 pm is teeming with impatient travelers. "Attention please! Flight number so-and-so to Boston has been cancelled due to inclement weather. The next available flight departs tomorrow morning."

Welcome to the United States of America! What a way to start the next oh-so-many years of our still young and inexperienced lives! Our heroes are bundled into a bus, and driven through the cold night...destination: Boston, MA.

27th August' 1999... The wee hours of the day (about 2:00 am, to be precise) saw four intrepid explorers wandering aimlessly about Logan International, one of the busiest airports in the US of A (that's where the AA guys left them!) A new and "unknown" country, heavy baggage to lug around, and not a soul in sight...

As you must doubtless have guessed by now, I am one of those fierce warriors... braving a new world to add a new dimension to his life and experiences... So lets drop this charade of a thriller/action-packed-adventure and have a look at what my new home (well, temporarily, at least!) had in store for me!

Cambridge might well be my home, for the next couple of years, at least... This university-town lies just across the Charles river from busy Boston,  of the Boston Tea Party fame. Being an important hub for business and commerce, it is no small wonder that Boston (and neighbouring Cambridge, too) is generally devoid of greenery. One is therefore taken aback by the occasional splashes of vivid colour in this concrete jungle. Check out these outlandish shots from my apartment windows!

Is the city burning? View from the living room!!!

       How's the weather out here?

A leisurely evening stroll through the city is always a pleasurable experience... Seen below are sharp contrasts juxtaposed within such short distances. The Longfellow bridge is one of several links across the river between Cambridge and Boston. Notice some of the high-rise structures so characteristic of Boston skyline. The John Hancock tower is the tallest building in the city. A short distance away is the Boston Commons, complete with lawns and flowerbeds, trees with their branches drooping over the pond, and a statue of George Washington on horseback.
