Design Team Charter

June 25, 1996

Why this team?

The MIT Reengineering Steering Committee chartered a design team to create and sustain an environment which fosters the highest level of work performance necessary for the Institute to fulfill its mission. The Human Resource Principles adopted in 1994 (see reverse) provide the foundation for this team's work.

What is the mission?

Our mission is to identify and evaluate the human resource practices needed to select, prepare, motivate, develop, and support MIT's employees to meet the needs of changing work environments across the Institute. Such practices include hiring, evaluating, developing, and rewarding people. The team will recommend a cohesive master plan and strategy to make MIT as excellent an employer as it is an educator.

What will we do?

1. Meet with people from a cross section of the MIT community to assess the strengths of existing human resource practices and identify current and future needs.

2. Explore the best human resource practices in other organizations.

3. Recommend a working design and structure for human resource practices.

4. Recommend a strategy for implementation.
