Gestural Engineering: The Sculpture of Arthur Ganson
Sculptor/inventor Arthur Ganson's whimsical mechanical sculptures,
on exhibit at the MIT Museum, embody the qualities least associated
with machines. Ganson, an artist-in-residence at MIT, describes
himself as a cross between a mechanical engineer and a choreographer.
His contraptions are composed of a range of materials, from
delicate wire to welded steel and concrete. Most are viewer-activated
or driven by electric motors. All are driven by a wry sense
of humor or a probing philosophical concept. |

Robots and Beyond: Exploring Artificial Intelligence
at MIT
A multimedia excursion into the world of artificial intelligence,
the MIT Museum exhibition "Robots and Beyond" throws open
the doors of MIT's A.I. Lab, where scientists have been probing
the mysteries of artificial intelligence for decades. Many
of the exhibits in the show are both experimental and experiential,
taking the visitor behind the scenes to look at the evolution
of a successful invention. In fact, the moment visitors enter
this exhibition, they become part of A.I. research at MIT.
Back in their laboratories, scientists will integrate visitor
feedback into the next stage of their inventions. |
