MIT will provide a replacement diploma in situations where the original is lost or damaged.
Employers sometimes request a copy of the diploma as proof of graduation. MIT does not have copies. If you are unable to copy your original diploma you need to order a replacement or you can obtain, free of charge, an official degree certification letter.
The name that appears on the replacement diploma must be identical to the original. Since an exact duplicate of the original diploma is, in most cases, impossible the new diploma will be issued in the contemporary format and will bear the signatures of the current Institute officers. The word "Reissued" and the date the diploma was reissued will appear under the signatures.
The fee for replacing a diploma is $50. Payment may be made by check or money order payable to MIT or by Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card; we do not accept American Express. If paying by credit card, use the link provided on the diploma replacement form. This is a secure and encrypted online payment service. See the link below to read the privacy statement.
It normally takes four weeks to prepare a diploma once the order form and payment or authorization if paying by credit card have been received.
To replace a diploma complete a Request for Replacement Diploma Form.
Your signature must be notarized. Send the request form to:
