Special Student Tuition 2014 - 2015

Fall and Spring Terms

Undergraduate Special students registering during either the fall or spring term (whether for credit or not) are charged per unit of registration. The charge is $699 per unit.

There is a minimum charge of $4,194 for MIT affiliates which covers up to 6 units of registration. For non-MIT affiliates the minimum charge is $6,291 and this covers up to 9 units of registration. If a student registers for more than either 6 or 9 units as appropriate they will be charged per unit up to a maximum of $22,360.

A different rate applies for non-MIT affiliates taking classes as a special student in the Sloan School of Management. In this case the charge is $1,219 per unit. The minimum charge, covering up to 9 units of registration, is $10,971 and the maximum charge is $39,675.

There are a number of miscellaneous fees associated with applying to MIT and registration. These are set out in the table of Miscellaneous Fees.

Summer Session

Special students (both graduate and undergraduate) registering during the summer session (whether for credit or not) are charged per unit of registration. The charge is $699 per unit.

There is a minimum charge of $4,194 for MIT affiliates which covers up to 6 units of registration. For non-MIT affiliates the minimum charge is $6,291 and this covers up to 9 units of registration. If a student registers for more than either 6 or 9 units as appropriate they will be charged per unit up to a maximum of $14,900.
