Fall 2017 Pre-registration

Fall Pre-registration Instructions

  1. You may either enter your subjects directly in subject selection following these instructions, or auto-submit your subjects to pre-registration from the Subject Listing and Schedule. The advanced search feature can help you find subjects that fit your interests or schedule.

PLEASE NOTE: IS&T has recently implemented Duo two-factor authentication for all secure MIT systems protected by Touchstone. Enrollment in Duo will be required for all students accessing these secure systems, including Pre-registration.

  2. Current pre-registration selections can be viewed on the pre-registration summary page.

  3. Students taking only thesis or research must pre-register.

  4. Communication-Intensive HASS (CI-H or CI-HW) subjects have an earlier pre-registration deadline than other subjects. Students interested in pre-registering for a CI-H or CI-HW subject must enter their selections by 5 pm on Monday, June 19. While progressing through online pre-registration, you will be prompted to use a CI-H/HW Selector Tool where you will have the opportunity to request prioritized scheduling for one or two CI-H/HW subjects with alternatives for each, or place yourself on a wait list. The June 19 deadline is intended to encourage students to make informed CI-H/HW choices, provide departments with information so that resources can be allocated based on student interest, and optimize student choice with CI priorities set by the Faculty Subcomittee on the Communication Requirement. More information is available about the CI-H/HW Selector Tool.

  5. Sloan Course Bidding (Course 15) for non-Sloan students opens at 12 pm on Friday, June 30 and closes at 12 pm on Thursday, July 13. There are additional rounds for waitlist bidding for closed courses and section swaps.

Deadlines and Late Fees

The deadline for continuing students to initiate pre-registration and request priority scheduling for CI-H/HW choices is 5 pm on Monday, June 19. There is a $50 late fee for students who initiate pre-registration after June 19 and an $85 fine for students who fail to pre-register by 5 pm on Thursday, August 24.

How to check your pre-registration once it is submitted

Go to the pre-registration summary page to check on your current subject selections. This page displays what pre-registration is on file with the Registrar's Office.

After Pre-registration Closes

Your pre-registration is replaced with your class schedule on WebSIS when pre-registration closes. Schedules will be run for all students on Friday, September 1. The class schedule includes the subjects you pre-registered for and the results of the CI-H/HW enrollment process and Sloan Bidding.

All students must also complete the Online Registration process to register for classes. Online Registration for Fall will open on August 28 at 9 am.
