MIT Cross-Registration Instructions for HARVARD Students

PROCEDURE FOR ENROLLING IN A MIT SUBJECT

Pick up a cross-registration form from your Registrar. After obtaining the appropriate signatures bring the completed cross-registration form to the Student Services Center (11-120, 77 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge) where the form will be signed on behalf of the MIT Registrar. You will also need to fill out a Non-Institute Biographic Form. This form is necessary to complete the registration process. All forms must be presented in person. Do not mail forms or give them to a classmate to deliver. The Student Services Center will retain the MIT copy of your form. For students from the Kennedy School of Government, the Harvard Business School and the Harvard School of Public Health, the MIT Registrar's Office will forward the Harvard Registrar's copy to the appropriate office. Otherwise, it is your responsibility to return the Harvard Registrar's copy to the appropriate office.

PROCEDURE TO DROP A MIT SUBJECT

To drop a subject at MIT, file the required drop form at your home school. If your home school automatically notifies MIT of your decision to drop the subject, then no additional paperwork is necessary for the MIT Registrar's Office. If your home school does not notify MIT, then MIT will accept either a copy of your drop form or a completed MIT Add/Drop/Change Form (available at the Student Services Center, 11-120). Please note that if your school's drop date is earlier than MIT's, you must abide by the earlier date.

PASS/FAIL

Harvard Graduate students may not choose to take MIT subjects on a pass/fail basis. Harvard Undergraduates must obtain the permission of the Harvard Registrar to take MIT subjects pass/fail.

PLUS/MINUS GRADING

These grade modifiers are for internal MIT use only;  the pluses and minuses do not appear on official MIT transcripts and are not reported to the Harvard Registrar; they do not affect students' grade point averages.  The official MIT grading system for external purposes does not include the + and - modifiers.

If you have any questions regarding cross-registration, please contact the Registrar's Office at records@mit.edu.
