Graduate students who are continuing research during the summer must pre-register for the appropriate subject number or for thesis. Check with your department.

There are no lotteries in effect for summer pre-registration.

Pre-register for fall as completely as possible by 5:00 pm on Thursday, May 28.

Once you have submitted your pre-registration, you may go back in and modify your subject selections until pre-registration closes at 5:00 pm on Thursday, August 20.

  • Thesis should be entered in the form of dept#.thu or dept#.thg. For example: 2.thu or 17.thg
  • UROP should include the department. For example, 7.ur or 7.urg DIFFERENT GRADING APPLIES: dept#.ur is graded P/D/F and dept#.urg uses regular letter grades.
  • To delete a subject entered in an earlier session, choose delete using the status button to the left of the subject number. To delete a subject you just entered, blank it out.
  • You must click on 'Submit Subjects' after entering or changing subjects. You are then taken to a page to review your selections. Correct any subjects with error messages. Click on 'Finished' when you are done.
  • Take the opportunity to review and update your address and emergency contact information.

Summer: enter subjects directly in subject selection

Fall: enter subjects directly in subject selection or submit your subjects automatically from the Subject Listing and Schedule

How to check on your pre-registration once it's submitted

Go to the pre-registration summary page to check on your current subject selections. This page displays what pre-registration is on file with the Registrar's Office.

What happens after pre-registration has ended

Summer: the Registrar's Office will produce a paper three-part registration form based on your pre-registration. Graduate students who are enrolled in research degree programs and taking only thesis or pre-thesis research subjects will have their registration form automatically approved and submitted by their department. All other students should contact their departments for instructions on completion of registration.

Fall: when pre-registration closes, it is replaced on WebSIS with your class schedule. The class schedule includes the subjects you submitted online and the results of any lotteries you entered, except for Sloan waitlist positions which do not appear on class schedules. Waitlist positions and section information can be checked online through Sloan Course Bidding.

The Registrar’s Office then produces a paper three-part Registration Form and sends it to your department about a week before Registration Day.

The subjects you selected during pre-registration, including results of lotteries you entered, are printed on your Registration Form.
