New dorm completion date is key to implementing housing freshman on campus
De-crowding will take time to work out
Squatting and inertia need to be worked on
Picking temp housing has happened in the past – how did it work then?
It may be that some people will just stay put instead of moving. It might be better to allow squatting, but not to encourage it
More thorough information on dorms needs to be sent to freshman prior to their arrival here
How can Campus Preview Weekend be utilized in freshman viewing housing
How will FSILG’s be covered financially during the transition
Three to four days over IAP for Rush just doesn’t seem like enough time. Looking at how other schools handle this would be helpful
Preserving friendships is very important
How will the 40% upperclassmen ratio be accomplished?
RA’s may not be as credible as an upperclassman or other acquaintance/friend
Mailing’s do not capture the essence of housing – being there is much better
MIT is much different than almost any other school. So is it possible to create/mimic housing for freshman at MIT based on any of these other schools?
Requiring freshman to move would be better than allowing inertia to occur
Eliminate "bring all your stuff" and "correction lottery" and refer to it as "temp dorm/temp room"
Freshman shouldn’t be able to pick temp housing
Interaction with upperclassmates because it helps give a sense of what to expect
January Rush and freshman already in dorms may seriously take away from the FSILG’s
Why is it desirable to encourage class spirit?
How long will the sophomore shuffle last? How will it work for someone who has only had a bad day/week?
Use Rush to link dorm residents and FSILG residents
There has been little discussion of linking faculty with FSILG’s
What about G student interaction?
How do we define the dorm as successful?
Housing 60% of the freshman in one place may be more detrimental with only 40% upperclassmen to oversee/guide them
Have something like Medlinks to take the place of proposed RA’s
Freshman dorm would be worse than FLP’ers
Sophomore shuffle will not change the popularity of certain houses
Campus Preview weekend need to take into account cost before it becomes a necessary item
What did Larry Bacow mean when he said ". . .planning to introduce instabilities into the housing system. . .". This was said at the introduction of the committee.
