Steering Committee:
Who we are, what we do

At the request of President Vest, the past twelve months have seen a sustained effort to establish the principles for our residential system. The reports of a working group chaired by Associate Provost Clay and of the Task Force on Student Life and Learning have established a series of principles that are focused on developing the "whole student" through an integration of student life and learning.

Chancellor Bacow formed the Residence System Steering Committee this fall to lead the efforts of the MIT community to develop a new design of a residence system that embodies those principles. During the redesign process, the steering committee will be responsible for fostering divergent opinions and approaches to the residence system. Members will also clarify, as necessary, the limits and boundaries of the scope of redesign. During the design proposal deliberations, the committee will provide periodic updates to the community about its discussions and the proposals it is considering. Community members may contact steering committee members by email throughout the process.
