FSILG

Resident Advisor Program

Resident Advisors are live-in mentors, role models, guides and resources for the students who live in MIT's residential FSILG facilities. Responsibilities of the RA position can vary from chapter to chapter. The FSILG office oversees hiring for these positions and seeks men and women who take initiative to build rapport with the undergraduate members of the FSILG, as well as communicate with MIT and the Alumni Corporation of the FSILG.

RAs teach and enforce MIT policies and safety practices, and take appropriate action to ensure that their residents follow these policies and practices. Resident Advisors receive training in cooperation with MIT's Medical Department, Safety Office, Facilities, Campus Police and other offices. RAs support exists in all FSILG facilities through the academic year and the summer.

For more information about the RA program please contact Lauren Wojtkun in the FSILG Office at laurenw@mit.edu or 617-253-7546.

Philanthropic, Charity, or Chapter Large Event Planning

Perhaps the most valuable resource available to event planners is the Event Planning Guide, which is created by the Student Activities Office and Campus Activities Complex. The Guidebook introduces and guides event planners through the process by helping to define the event, suggesting where to begin, and providing helpful hints for making it successful. It is important to ensure that events are registered with the proper MIT department, Campus Police, and the City of Cambridge. The Guidebook also includes a checklist for planning an event and a directory of offices at MIT that are available to assist you in its appendix.

FSILG Cooperative

The FSILG Cooperative, Inc. ("FCI" or "the Cooperative") is a member-owned and -operated corporation that was organized by members of the MIT FSILG system. The Cooperative was formed to improve the quality and lower the cost of products and services purchased by MIT fraternities, sororities, and independent living groups.

FCI is a separate incorporated body from the AILG and MIT but is supported by both. Each member house owns one share of the Cooperative. The Board of Directors is elected by the member houses in the fall of each year and is the governing body of the Cooperative.

Alumni Independent Living Groups (AILG)

Most FSILGs have a core group of active alumni who have a regular role in house operation. The Association of Independent Living Groups (AILG) is the affiliation of those alumni house corporations. The AILG speaks for the FSILG alumni community and is formally organized with officers and standing committees on accreditation, economic development, and public affairs.
