Volunteerism

The Research Lab of Electronics at MIT asked us to pass along two volunteer opportunities for hearing studies.

Volunteers between the ages of 18-70 years are sought for hearing experiments. The goal of this research is to develop improved speech reception for users of hearing aids. We are recruiting volunteers with normal hearing as well as those with hearing loss. All volunteers must be native English speakers. The project is headed by Dr. Louis D. Braida, MIT Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Please see the attached fliers with details and contact information.

The MIT Clinical Research Center is conducting a 12-week nutrition study and seeks participants over the age of 60 years. There is a stipend of $300 for participation in the study, all food is provided, and parking at MIT is provided. Briefly, participants will eat three separate diets for 4 weeks each (a "regular" American diet, a healthy meat diet, and a vegetarian diet). Participants will need to come to MIT three times a week for weight and blood pressure checks and to pick up their food. Please click here for details.

The Aging, Memory & Cognition Project at MIT is sponsoring two research projects.

Cognition and Memory
Volunteers age 40-85 sought for basic research studies of cognition and memory. These studies are designed to help shed light on cognitive function across the life span and to extend knowledge about age-related brain changes. Please click here for details.

Parkinson's Disease & Memory
Volunteers sought to participate in ongoing research that investigates the effects of Parkinson's disease on long-term memory. The goal of the research is to understand the brain mechanisms that underlie human memory, and how Parkinson's disease affects these capacities.  Our tests are non-invasive and drug-free. The project is headed by Dr. Suzanne Corkin, MIT Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience. Please click here for details .
