Subject: [sloan-crew] Times are in

Sloanies,

Good job, ya'll. It looks like we overcame a number of obstacles (crazy boat issues, first race blisters...), and had some fun. Before I reveal the times, let me preface by saying that most of the 53 boats today went 30 seconds to a minute slower than their expected times. Apparently current was mean and wind was not as minor an issue as we thought. That said, some boats did do awesome (one guy even set a PR, somehow?), so we can't just assume weather affected us all. Either way, the simplest fact to put our times in perspective is that this was the slowest Head of the Kevin in three years (that's nine events over the same distance with many of the same rowers); no boat even came within 15 seconds of last year's winners, and usually we have 2-3 boats going faster than last year. So, I estimated the time I think each of you 'really' got in parenthesis, based on a comparison of times this year and last with the most consistent rowers who raced today. Either number deserves a pat on the back, and all numbers deserve more great practice this week.

Men's 8
20:13 (19:30, as the other eights were each about 1:00 slow; and for ya'll, that's not bad considering that it was the first time with that lineup, but let's really take advantage of these last three practices.)

Women's 4
21:54 (21:20, as the other 4's were about 45 seconds slow; and that would put ya'll above the halfway point between all the Champ women's 4's last year!)

Novice 8
23:46 (23:15, as ya'll's speed wasn't checked as much by that wicked current; I had confidence ya'll could get under 24, but that's a good deal faster.)

So, good job everyone, and I'll see ya'll these upcoming mornings.

Hansen
