Assassins Rules for RSI 2013

Report a kill (requires MIT certificates)

Objectives:

1. Most importantly: Have fun, and help others have fun.
2. In order to win, you have to be the last person remaining in the game. Knock other people out of the game by "killing" them, and try to avoid being killed yourself.

Whom do I kill?

At the beginning of the game, you will be sent an email with a password and your first target's username. When you kill your target, the victim's target will become your new target. Rather than telling you a name directly, the victim will give you his/her password. You must enter this password online to learn the identity of your next target.

How do I kill my target?

To kill your target, all you have to do is say, "Bang, you're dead" (or other sound effect of choice). No physical contact is necessary; in fact, using physical force is strictly prohibited. The only catch is that there can be no witnesses. If any 2013 Rickoid student (dead or alive) is within eyesight, then either the victim or the eyewitness can invalidate the kill.

How do I know if there's an eyewitness?

If a witness runs over the scene of the kill and claims to have witnessed it, then of course that invalidates the kill. However, a Rickoid can also be a witness even if s/he does not "see" the kill at all. In this case, it is the victim's responsibility to point out the witness. If the victim can point to a Rickoid who is within eyeshight (but not necessarily watching), then that Rickoid is an eyewitness.

What happens after a kill?

If the victim cannot point out any witnesses, then s/he must forfeit his/her password to the killer. To do this, the victim signs a piece of paper similar to the following: "I was killed by [name of killer]. My password is [victim's password]. Signed, [victim's signature]" Once again, the victim does not reveal the name of his/her target. Instead, the killer must enter the victim's password into the website to learn the identity of his/her next target.

What if the victim doesn't remember his/her password?

When we give you your password on the first day of the game, please try to memorize it! If the victim really doesn't remember, though, modify the signed piece of paper to say: "I was killed by [name of killer]. I forgot my password. Signed, [victim's signature]" The killer should bring this piece of paper to Megan to receive his/her next target.

What if I kill someone but we don't have a pen or paper?

If there's any question about the legality of the kill, the note will be used as evidence. In the absence of evidence, disputes are more likely to be resolved in favor of people being alive. Therefore, it is the burden of the killer to have a pen and paper.

What happens if I get killed?

As described above, make sure you sign a piece of paper and hand it to your killer. Do not reveal your target. Then go to the website and communicate the details of your death. This is not mandatory, but it is completely to your advantage. The only way for us to verify that you were killed by your rightful assassin is for you to report the name of your killer online.

Why do I have to write this note?

Name of killer: to ensure that only your rightful assassin can kill you.
Password: so that your assassin (only if it is your rightful assassin) can access their new target.
Signature: so that your assassin can't write something down and pretend that you wrote it.

Besides being caught by my assassin, how else can I get killed?

By going too long without killing someone, or by breaking the rules of the game.

How long is too long?

Time will be partitioned into 48-hour periods (midnight until midnight two days later). You must make at least one kill in each of these periods. If an entire period goes by in which you have not killed anyone, terminators (staff members dressed in suits and sunglasses) may be dispatched at the beginning of the next period to find and kill you. Terminators can kill you even if there are witnesses present, but they must make physical contact in order to complete the kill. In addition, the AD has modkill privileges to be used at his discretion. This means that he does not need to follow the normal rules of terminators (suits/sunglasses/etc). To gain safety from the terminators, make another kill.

What if I kill my target after the period ends, but before the terminators find me?

Lucky you; you will not be terminated. That kill counted for the last period, though, so you have to kill someone else this period in order to stay immune from the terminators in the following period.

What if my target is killed by the staff?

The staff will update the website. Sign back into the website to learn the name of your next target.

Breaking what rules will get me kicked out the game?

At the staff's discretion, you may be disqualified if you break any RSI, Simmons, MIT, Cambridge, Massachusetts, Federal, International, etc. laws, rules, or regulations. For instance, you might be kicked out if you are caught being loud during Simmons quiet hours.

Am I safe anywhere?

You cannot be killed at mentorship or travelling to and from mentorship, or otherwise during mentorship hours (defined as 9 AM to 5 PM). This means that, if you only meet with your mentor an hour a day, you still cannot be killed from 9-5. This also means that, if you are at mentorship past 5, you still cannot be killed until you leave your lab and return to campus.

What if there is a dispute over whether a kill was valid (or about anything else)?

All disputes will be resolved with a group decision by the counselors. Their decision is final.
