Same rule as before: Text in this color is more updated. Read on and you'll get the hang of it. So here is the collection photos I have gathered up so far. It is a bit small, and the pictures are small, too. Hopefully, I will be able to put up a photo album, where you can view the pictures in larger sizes. For now, this is all I have. I will put up quotes, captions, descriptions, and more pictures later on. Be thankful that this page even exists. Come back and check once in a while. And if you have pictures you would like to contribute to this page, please contact me. I guess my first friend here at MIT was Amy, since she's from my high school. She's a gymnast, and I like to say she can beat me up, as do a lot of other people. She's shy and quiet, which is why she is taking communications (j/k, it's a requirement, but I like to say that). She lives on the opposite side of campus at Next, but not Chinatown. I remember that the first time I saw her, I thought she was Korean. I didn't really know her until my senior year in high school (she was my lab partner because I didn't want to be partners with..... hehe, inside joke), but I've gotten to known her a lot better since. So for about two years, I didn't see much of Amy. I still got invited to her birthday dinners at Peking Garden every year though. Yes, I guess I'm special like that. I saw a lot of Amy this past term since we took two math classes together. It was pretty rough, and I had to rely on her for all the problem sets. She's a lifesaver. There might be a chance I'll join her in an apartment next year. She was offered a job at John Hancock in September 2001, and she accepted. So as soon as she knows if her other friend will be in the area, she'll start apartment shopping and maybe get me involved. We'll see. Cecile is a good friend of Amy, but I think I might have met Cecile before I knew she knew Amy. Cecile was in my Greek history class, and also in my 8.022 class, which meant we'd often have E&M parties Wednesday nights. During pre-orientation, I attended FSP (freshman service program), and met a lot of people, who in turn, led to meeting more people. There's Nelson and his girlfriend Stephanie. (Nelson and Stephanie have broken up long since version 1 of this website.) Nelson is one of the few people who lives on the "freaky" side of campus. He lives at Senior House, and is indeed quite freaky. He's a good piano player, a once-fat-turned-buff-ass (Incidentally, I didn't really mean the fat part when I wrote this sophomore year. It's a little joke that I like to tease him about. I will say that he is pretty buff now.), and shares the same interest in Chinese movie. He also started a thing for Chinese pop music when he visited Taiwan, for which I pride myself in bringing out in him. I used to give Nelson comments on his preppie style of dress. That has also changed in the past three years. Nelson follows a more alternative trend now. He has picked up skate-boarding, which probably has a bit to do with it. And his also chopped off some hair and dropped the glasses. You might not recognize him if you haven't seen him in a while. Stef is just Stef. I don't see too much of her, but do get a lot of her mass e-mails for various UA activities, for which she is quite involved. (In the last few years, I've caught Stef at random places. Walking around campus, or occasionally at some random IM sports event.) Then there's the once-411-clan of Diana , Tina , Phebe , and Ngan. Of the four, I talk to Diana most, because she's online most. She's fun to hang around, and step on her toes while walking, and others. She talks in a funky New York tongue, cries during sad movies, speaks Cantonese, and supposedly a good cook. I haven't talked much to Tina recently, but she's an interesting person who is pretty involved. Phebe is, um, sometimes violent, and speaks funky Mandarin with her parents on the phone. Her alias is Bephe (pronounced beefy) for obvious reasons. Ngan is cool in that she speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese (I'm very jealous) and is apparently ambidexterous. Her counterpart, Kan, is Abercrombie boy. Also from FSP is Dan , whose roommates are Kenny , Glenn, and Toliver. Kenny, adidas boy, knew someone who went to my high school, which is how we kind of met. He's a pretty fast guy, we both tried out for track our freshman year. Glenn is a pretty cool guy. He dated Amy (from my high school) for a little while. I was the one who "set" them up. Tells you what a bad matchmaker I am (considering the brevity of the relationship). It was all my fault.... Anyway, Glenn is a pretty funky course 6-er. The latest thing about him is liquid dancing. We had quite a bit of fun with white socks (Kenny's) on our hands in a room lit with black-lights. He's also quite the drinks man. He makes a sweet "sex on the beach," so I've been told. Also associated with Glenn and Kenny is Alyx. I've known Alyx for a while now. She was in my 2.009 group this past semester. She was the programming bunny, doing all the coding for the remote control. So I've been able to talk to her more or less (instead of just a couple of times during the summer, as it has been for the past few years). Alyx has also been giving me some tips on women. I have yet to try out some of her tricks, but it's not because I'm not taking them seriously. I guess I'm not advanced enough yet. Got to work up the stages.... Some other people I met at FSP are Goutam, who lives on East Campus 3E and is quite the pyro; Alex, a PKT brother and was in my Urban Transportation freshman seminar; John Ho, who I already knew before through family friends and Chinese school; Aaron Mihalik, who lives on 2W and is quite a lifter. Aaron also was a pretty good sport with taking pictures of a friend for me. I asked him if he could take some pictures, so he took some (some 72 of them). He's a photographer for the Tech, so he's got some serious camera equipment. He also a pretty decent writer. I proofread a piece for him earlier this semester (Fall 2001) and it was pretty good. Just don't ask him how much money he makes. Now Brian Chan, CHOSETEC, deserves this paragraph to himself. I guess I met Brian a few times during orientation, but I didn't really start hanging with him until we took 8.012. Brian is quite the man of many interests. He does a lot of art stuff, everything from drawing people to 3-D modelling himself. To make a long story short, just go check out his website . He is famous for his "little black book," in which he takes class notes and draws a lot of his ideas. Brian is the kind of person who likes to make an "all-in-one" tool. He speaks Cantonese, but also does Mandarin surprisingly well. We, along with Nelson, share a passion for Jet Li movies, though Brian takes the word "passion" to a whole new level. Just ask him how many times he has seen Fists of Legends." The B has a very unique sense of humor, burps in public (for which I often get blamed for since people don't see how this such innocent devil can do such a grotesque thing as burping), and loves walnuts!! He lives at Bexley, but during various times of the week, he spends a good chunk of time over at my room. People on my hall know him as the person who sleeps in our lounge. So Brian is still Brian. We've been through a lot. This was the first semester (Fall 2001) that I didn't have a class with him. Well, we took 2.009 together, but since we were in two different groups, added to the fact that he nevered went to lectures, I never saw him. We still have fun at Thanksgiving. The B has been up to a lot the past few years. He picked up forging, got me involved for a bit, and started going hardcore about swords. We even did a presentation on sword-making in 2.008. He's also doing some kendo so he can put his swords to use. Brian is also applying to graduate school. Hopefully, we'll both be around next year. Also, I've done a "good" job converting Brian from his goody goody frosh days. He can be often seen smoking up and cussing (and occasionally kicking) homeless people on the streets. Sorry, that was an over-exaggeration. He hasn't changed much. Our conversations have become a bit more liberal now. In other words, we're not shy when we talk. So if you ever want to be frightened, join in on our conversations. I also met Rajay through Brian. Rajay is a Next house Beastie-Boys' paraphernalia person. He was in my Greek history class, from which we share many "pleasant" memories. Then there's a bunch of random people who I met through other people I knew. Chia Hao I met at PROMYS. I don't see much of him anymore, but he's a nice guy to talk to. I knew Eric Hwang two other people from PROMYS. I met him again when I visited MIT my senior year. Eric is a pretty "mellow" guy who can pull some nice tunes on the piano. He always says he wants to get his basketball together, but we've both been a bit busy. I first met Josh at my Urban Transportation seminar. He's a fellow course 2-er. He's quite the mack DJ, though sometimes the reggae and hip hop gets to me a little. During IAP '99, I took a course 2 class, through which I met Luke Chuang (he graduated '99), Christina Park , Gina Kim, and Gautam Jayaraman . Christina, Gina, and Gautam are all course 2-ers. Christina is a "tae kwan do" machine, so we're all very afraid of her (j/k, actually, she's a nice person to work with). She's in my current 2.007 "grading" group, which means we critique each others' work. I find it amusing to criticize everything she does, especially her isometric drawings. Gautam, who took 2.002 and 2.003 with me during fall '99 has officially switched into EECS. Other cool course 2 people I've met are Manu, Luke, Dave Hu, Linus, Josh C., Dan S., Josh, Grant, and probably a long list of others. Manu is in 2.004 and 2.007. He's also in my grading group. Manu has a thing for being very thorough in his 2.007 problem sets. I once said, "Manu writes novels, I write haikus." I actually met Luke from before, but I've been working with him a lot more this semester on 2.004. We spend many a nights (and mornings) cranking it out in the student center. Luke has a thing for burping and scratching his groin. He shows off his juggling skills with our contest pieces in 2.007 (he's also in my 2.007 lab section). I've known Dave before by face, but wasn't introduced until this semester for 2.004 purposes. Like me, Dave is attempting to double in math. Unlike me, Dave is doubling in math by taking all the "hardcore" math classes: 18.100B, 18.701, 18.702, et al. I'm very impressed by his six class semester schedules. Dave has a problem with his right testicle. He claims it's larger and hangs down further than his left testicle. He says he hasn't been able to figure it out, and it bothers him from time to time. Josh I already knew from my freshman seminar. But since he's in all my course 2 classes, I thought I'd mention him here. Josh also lives at EC. He's quite the music DJ-ing man. He's got three spin-tables in his room, and he's always up to playing "this really cool" song whenever anyone visits. I met Grant through Josh. Grant is quite the hardworker and he gets his stuff done. Dan Sandoval is quite the sleek 2.007 design buster. His machine was voted most likely to work, and he's made many "contributions" to the class (you really have to be a 2.007-er to realize the thing instructors have on "contributions"). I've also met Linus before taking course 2 classes. I was first introduced through Amy, who used to spend a lot of time at Chi Phi. Linus keeps me company on Thursday nights, nights of 2.006 problem sets. Well, he keeps me company on line by helping me see the answer. Josh is also Chi Phi, and I also met him before through Amy and Winnie. Apparently, he's got these really big biceps. I don't know. I personally think mine are pretty comparable (well, my calves, I meant). Here is a short conversation I had with Josh one day. It was May 8, 2000, 2.007 Competition day. Josh is test driving his robot, and apparently cuts his fingertips on the sides of the platform:
