Why do I like Sailor Mercury?
Well, to go back a little further, I'll start with how
my Sailor Scout obsession got started in the first place. I was browsing on the web in the 8th grade,
and I saw all these cute little girls with huge eyes. “Sailor Moon”, the site said.
What a pretty name that was. The oddest thing after checking out all the scout bio’s
was one whose name was Amy (my own) or Ami (my grandmother’s name for me). She was
just as nerdy as I was, loved books and computers and math. She even had the same hair
cut (very very short)! She was a Virgo and 5'2", and wanted to be a doctor, like I did
then. It was a weird happening, because I was a total dork and got made fun of all the
time at school, and then to find out that there was a Sailor Scout just like me was. . .
heartwarming in a way only an 8th grader would understand. When I drew her all over my
school notes and folders, everyone else agreed. Hey, that girl looks like you!
True, many
people can complain because she has weird hair, she has blue hair, because she's so
boring, her attacks are so weak. I like her hair, and I don't think she's boring at all.
Perhaps there are scouts with better looks and other characteristics.
But most people pick as their favorite scout someone who they can relate too, that
sort of connects them to the story.
And I relate to her very much. I'm not the only one, because she was voted as the
favorite scout in Japan when the manga first came out.
Who is Sailor Mercury like?

Demi Moore! Just kidding. If you read the MiXX translation, when Bunny sees Amy for the first
time, she says, "She's the school genius? Wow! She looks like Demi Moore!"
Miss Rain. Actually, in the original, what Bunny says is, "She's the school genius? I thought
she was Miss Rain." Miss Rain is actually the heroine of a short manga by Naoko Takeutchi called Miss Rain, in a collection of
other short mangas with the theme of "girls' first love". It's such a cute, sweet, darling story! You want to read it
here. No pictures or scans of the actual manga, but Naoko-sama is such a great story teller and Alex Glover such a good translator that you'll
enjoy it anyway.
Miss Rain is a girl named Rena, and wherever she goes, it rains. In her control of water, she is like Amy, and in
addition, her hair is very short and blue.
Sailor V's best friend. In the Sailor V comic, Mina's best friend is someone very like Amy in
appearance and personality. Even if people accuse Naoko of favoring Bunny or other scouts and not liking Amy so much, Naoko has made modeled many other characters with the same personality/appearance as Amy-- so
she must like that sort of character a lot!
