Today Janet invited me to a Tau Beta Pi dinner at the MIT Faculty Club. The speaker was my Harmony and Counterpoint teacher from way back freshman year, Ellen Harris. She gave a talk about some of her research on Handel. She's gone through the original manuscripts for his old cantata's and dated them based on paper watermarks and other things. She's also investigated his bank records to learn about him as a person and investor. With what she knows about Handel, she advises singers in their interpretation of the music.

We also went to see March of the Penguins at LSC. Penguins are so cute ^_^. Especially the fuzzy baby ones.

Both these things got me thinking tonight. I think it's really cool when people devote their life to something they love. I also think it's cool to know so much about something/someone as to know it's (their) quirks and little habits that give personality.

I don't necessarily want to be old and crufty but sometimes I feel like too much of a kid. I have such aspirations, but they're quickly tossed aside upon the discovery that I'm very bad at the subject, or getting tired of the subject. Lately my passion is computer graphics, and clothes. I want to make it easier for people to design their own clothes--- I wonder how much fashion and fashion trends would change if people didn't have to be restrained by the availability of clothes in stores and could wear what they really wanted to wear, whatever they imagined. But the kid I am, maybe next week I'll want to devote my life to three toed sloths or something =P
