it's always so hard to study for that last final...
Grandmothers are all wonderful, I think. I was missing mine today, so I thought I'd write about her. I've seen her twice in my life, since she lives in Indonesia. She has a mango tree in her backyard, so when I stayed at her house, I had mango juice in the mornings, and sweet soft mango slices in the afternoons for a snack. She owns a little diner, and I ate the delicious Indonesian food there for lunch and dinner. My grandmother likes card games, hats, bargain shopping, and her grandchildren. She goes swimming every morning, which makes her more fit than me, I think. She gives the world's best massages. She has long black hair that she wears in a bun and it's still all black. When I think of her, I think of comfort and warmth.
Victoria, Lindy, Emily, her friend Christine, and I went to Bizarre Bazaar in Boston this late afternoon. It was loads of fun. It is amazing what clever and creative and cute designs people have. I got all manner of little odds and ends.

Today Janet invited me to a Tau Beta Pi dinner at the MIT Faculty Club. The speaker was my Harmony and Counterpoint teacher from way back freshman year, Ellen Harris. She gave a talk about some of her research on Handel. She's gone through the original manuscripts for his old cantata's and dated them based on paper watermarks and other things. She's also investigated his bank records to learn about him as a person and investor. With what she knows about Handel, she advises singers in their interpretation of the music.
I went to Asuka, my language partner's apartment on Thursday night. We had a bit of trouble finding each other at the Alewife trainstation, but after that all went smoothly. I am convinced I did not speak a single gramatically correct sentence with her, but it was close enough that she understood, I think. Asuka was such a sweet and hospitable host. She talked about a great many things, and asked me many questions, trying to encourage me to talk. Next week, I am going to bring over knitting needles and yarn and teach her to knit ^_^. In English of course.
i'm going to start writing haiku's every day ^_^
