fun weekend in san francisco

i owe a post from a while ago~

a few weekends ago, i went on a japantown, vivienne westwood museum, spiderman 3 watching san francisco trip with my friends marj and tiffany.

we had an absolutely delicious lunch in japantown. i had okonomiyaki and croquettes.

we had delicious fresh mochi for dessert. being 3 asian girls, we also couldn't resist the lure of kinokuniya stationary store.

then we filled our heads with fashion at the vivienne westwood exhibit at the deyoung museum. the exhibit displayd the different eras in her clothing, going from spike and saftey pin studded punk, to pirate inspired, to embellished riding gowns, to exquisite and strange ball gowns, to classy buisiness suits with a spunky twist, and many many others. but in every era, her clothes were so inventive, daring, and artistic. a few things from the blurbs on exhibit plaques stood out in my mind. the first was from a dress, and vivienne said that she wanted to give people the impression that a woman wearing this dress was from a land which had not yet been discovered, but a land that was very culturally advanced. wow. what a classy way to describe her motives. i think that could be said about a lot of her designs. also, vivienne mentioned that when people see a woman wearing her designs, she'd like them to say "what a beautiful woman!", not "what a beatiful dress (or skirt, or whatever)", that this would be the highest compliment to her.

i was eyeing her pearl drop earrings but they were way too heavy. i ended up getting a pair of orb earings from the exhibit.

oh by the way, this is the picture of the vivienne westwood/ nana's ring i've promised =P

we spent some time around the rest of the museum; there were some really interesting sculptures.

then we saw spiderman 3 at the metreon. i liked it quite a bit, though maybe not as much as the 2 before it. though he did some silly things in the movie, sweet dorky little peter parker is still my favorite comic book hero =P.

my next weekend will be the long weekend~ kenton and i will go to this video game music symphony concert. doesn't that sound like a cute date? i'll write again after i've gone ^_^

in california!

now i am officially in the bay area (just got here saturday) and will be here for 7 months!

since they're ending their tour in this area i got to meet the awesome guys of Wong Fu Productions at a local highschool. I introduced myself to them, since I'm friends with the brother of one of them. They were very pleasant and fun to talk to. Then I sat in an auditorium full of high school students and watched their first feature length film, which was absolutely wonderful! It had a very different feel from their shorts but still absolutely amazing, and sweet, and touching and funny! It is especially easy to relate to as an Asian, but not exclusively. The audience was mostly Asian, haha, and they were a lot of fun to watch the movie with-- laughing, cheering, going "awwww!" at the right moments.

Then since I had no way to get back and my careless self printed out directions to get to the train station wrong, Wesley drove me back to my place. I felt so bad about it >_<. But oooh, i'm sure some of the highschool girls would have killed to be in my shoes... Except maybe they wouldn't want to give up their shoes, since many of them got them autographed, haha.

The guys were so cool, and very nice, and I was so touched by the film. They are going to go so far! I really believe in them and admire their work. Do go watch their short movies if you haven't before! And check out the DVD whenever it comes out!
