August 15 Cultural Program
The cultural program will start at 6:00PM sharp in the Little Kresge Auditorium. The detailed program is given below.
- Talk by the chief guest, Mr. François Gautier
Mr. Gautier will give a talk titled "What can Indians in America do to raise more awareness about the real India?". This will be followed by a short interactive discussion.
Bio: Born in Paris in 1959, François Gautier is a French journalist, political correspondent in South Asia during ten years for the Geneva-based Journal de Geneve, then for Le Figaro, France's largest daily for eight years. He is now the editor in chief of the Paris-based La Nouvelle Revue de l'Inde (harmattan.fr). François has written several books: Arise O India (Har Anand) 1999, A Western journalist on India (Har-Anand 2001), India's Self Denial (Editions Auroville Press, 2001), Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a Guru of Joy (India Today Book Club, 2003; 11 reprints, 60,000 copies sold), A New History of India (Har Anand, 2009), as well as half a dozen books in French. He also writes regular columns for Indian newspapers, first in Blitz Bombay, then in the Hindustan Times, later came the popular "Ferengi's column" in the Indian Express, then the "French Connection" column in the Pioneer, as well as regular contributions to Rediff.com.
François has a Foundation, FACT, which deals with Human Rights in South Asia and is on the verge of building in Pune India's first Museum of Indian History . He is married to Namrita and shuttles between Delhi , Bangalore and the international city of Auroville near Pondicherry.
- Ae Mere Watan ke Logon, by Bhaskaran M. and Ipshita Nag.
Ipshita will give a vocal rendition of the famous song, Ae mere watan ke logon. She will be accompanied by Bhaskaran on the keyboard and Mihir on percussion.
- Bharatnatyam Dance on a Thillana, by MIT Natya
A pure rhythmic dance sequence expressing happiness, joy, ecstasy with graceful steps and postures.

- Group Song, by Rang-Laya (formerly known as the New England Choristers)
The group will give a choral renditions of bollywood hits: Main koi aisa geet gaaoon, Baazigar o Baazigar, Tera rang balle balle, Saare Jahaan se, Mitwa, Jai Ho.

- Bharat humko jaan se bhi and National Anthem, by Aditi Sheshadri, Arvind Thiagarajan, Bhaskaran M., Ananth Ram and Mihir Sarkar.
The group will give vocal renditions of two compositions by the Oscar-winner A. R. Rehman: the song Bharat humko jaane se bhi from the movie Roja, and a vocal rendition of the National Anthem, on the lines of arrangement by Rehman which he composed on the occasion of India's 50th Independence Day.
