NOTE:April 9, 2001: Released an updated version of the SAPgui for Windows' installer. This updated installer includes support for Windows ME and software patches from SAP through patch level 310 (08Mar2001).

NOTE:March 25, 2001: Updated this web page to remove the software downloads for Internet Explorer v5.5 (IE) and Service Pack 6 (SP6). For convenience, we had provided these software installers to ease installing this SAPgui for Windows. As time passes, it is unlikely that these installers will remain current; therefore, it is preferable to download the software from the Microsoft website, as needed.

Before installing the new SAPgui, the installer will test for the above conditions. If the installer encounters any errors, the installer will stop and display an error message. Additionally, an "install log" is stored within the "SAP" folder; usually, written to the "\Program Files\sap\" directory.

If you have comments or questions, send them to Business-Help at business-help@mit.edu.

WARNING: Downloading over a dialup network connection, such as Tether, will take from 2 to 4 hours, or longer. It is not recommended.

Our experience distributing this software installer over Tether has not been encouraging. It generally exceeds two hours with a 50Kbps connection. If you need this software and connecting directly to MITnet is not practical, send email to business-help@mit.edu. We will try to provide a more convenient way for you to get the software.

System Requirements

Windows 2000, NT (v 4.0 w/SP5 or higher), 98 and ME with

  • 64 MB of RAM minimum (128 MB of RAM recommended)
  • 45 MB of available disk space for SAPgui installer
  • 100 MB of available disk space for SAPgui software
  • Netscape 4.5 or higher (Netscape 4.78 is recommended)
  • MIT Certificates

Before you begin...

  1. If you have not already done so, logon as "administrator" and ensure that the prior SAPgui has been uninstalled via "Add/Remove Programs" from the Control Panel.

Download SAPgui for Windows 4.6

Download the SAPgui for Windows installer for 2000, NT, 98 or ME.

When the download is complete, find the file SAPgui4.6-Win-Installer.exe.

Install the SAPgui

  1. Logon as administrator or with a user account with administrator rights.

  2. Before the installation begins, shut down any other programs that are running.

  3. Double click on the SAPgui4.6-Win-Installer icon installer icon.

  4. Follow the on-screen installation instructions. The setup installs MIT SAPgui 4.6D with IXOS Viewer 4.1A in the folder C:\Program Files\SAP, unless you direct it to be installed elsewhere. However, we strongly recommend that you accept the defaults so that future upgrades and installations will be easier.

At the end of the installation, click on Finish to leave the installer program. After the installation completes, your computer should "Restart".

  5. When the installation is complete, remember to 'Trash' the installer.

New Folder Contents

The installer creates a folder called sap in the Programs group. Under the Start menu in the Programs group, it creates a group called SAP Frontend. SAP Frontend and SAP Frontend - ALL

The SAP Frontend folder contains the following connection items:
