Brokk Jarlsson

(Order of the Golden Rapier, Order of the Perseus, prior Queen's Champion of Fence)

I'm including my general SCA background rather than specifically focusing on Administrative details. This might help to get a better feeling for who I am as a scadian. I also try to mention any "long term service" I've done.

My primary "work" in the SCA, has focused around martial activities and supporting them. The first and foremost has been fencing. I've been the Baronial Marshal for roughly four years. I've run fencing events, run the weekly practice and spent countless numbers of hours teaching people basics and advanced fencing skills. This includes hauling the copious amounts of loaner gear back and forth. By no means have I done this "all alone". I've had a lot of help with every task I've taken charge of. Often times to the point of me simply organizing things, while other people do all the "real work".

My secondary interest recently has been thrown weapons. I've been a marshal for 1 1/2 years. I've been running weekly TW practices (as well as still running the fencing practice) on Sundays since the early fall of 2001.

My experience as a Baronial Marshal has left me as a first "point of contact" for many people who are new to the SCA but are also interested in fencing. I've also attended council on a regular basis since 1998.

I am an important part of a camping group at Pennsic for the last 4 years. Each year I am responsible for coordinating and gathering information from 50+ people on their tents and tent preferences. I need to track them all down, organize the information into a camp layout and make sure people set up in the right area so that we all fit while leaving enough room for our common needs.

I've helped out at many events in many facets. I've taught classes, helped with gate, helped in the kitchen, helped serve feast, helped setup, helped cleanup, been the Marshal in Charge of Fencing, helped with numerous demos. At Pennsic I have served as Major Domo at EK Royal, served as a guard, done shifts at Security every year. I've also been on the Queen's Guard.

Mundanely I am a lead software engineer. This means I'm responsible for tracking information, mentoring junior developers, architecting new technologies and implementing them as well. I'm available to respond via email all during the working day. I'm also used to keeping things organized and working on more than one task at a time. It's a normal part of my job to research issues, talk to people and come to decisions that can impact many people in different areas. Finding a solution that works within predefined rules is part of the job.

I welcome any questions. I am most easily reached by email, but if that does not work for someone, then can also try and call me at home in the evenings.
