ASTD Lifetime Achievement Award Given to Ed Schein

Awarded in the category of "Advancing Workplace Learning and Performance," Edgar Schein received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his pioneering work in organizational behavior and the role of culture in organizations. (from "ASTD News," Training & Development, June 2000).

"Edgar Schein is one of the founders of organizational psychology and a pioneer of the study of organizational cultures....In his landmark book Organizational Culture and Leadership, Schein explains what culture is, what it does, and how it relates to organizational effectiveness....In his work in process consultation Schein defined one of the key philosophical underpinnings to organization development. In process consultation, the consultant and client work as a team, each bringing skills and information that are needed to diagnose problems, determine next steps, and implement solutions....Edgar Schein also shaped the thinking and practice of career management and development. His pioneering work in career dynamics describes how careers evolve from the interplay between individuals and the organization."
