Holiday Travel Information

For International Scholars

We know that many of you will travel during the upcoming holiday season. We would like to remind you of the following travel requirements and tips.

If you plan to travel outside the United States, be sure to consult our Travel Advisory and visit the International Scholars Office at least 30 days before your intended dates of travel. At that time we will make sure that you have all the necessary documents and signatures to travel. We will check the validity of your passport, visa stamp, and most current visa eligibility document (such as Form DS-2019), so please remember to bring all of your visa documents when visiting our office.

Some of you may need to renew your entry visa stamps before returning to the United States. If you do need to apply for a new visa stamp, please be aware that December and January are very busy times at U.S. embassies and consulates abroad. You should, therefore, be sure to allow sufficient time for visa processing before returning to the United States.

If your spouse and/or children will travel and re-enter the United States separately, you should come to the ISchO at least 30 days before they intend to leave the United States, so that we can advise you about their travel.

We recommend that you get as much information as possible from the Department of State's website before traveling. This page contains links to all of the U.S. Consulates/Embassies, for information about the visa application process.
