Pasteur

Introduction

Located in Paris and founded by Louis Pasteur in 1887, the Institut Pasteur is one of the world’s leading private non-profit centers for infectious disease research. With 2500 staff members representing 60 nationalities, its 130 research labs are devoted to the basic science of improving global public health. In collaboration with the Institut Pasteur, the Pasteur Foundation has launched a program to bring U.S. post-doctoral researchers to work at the Institut Pasteur laboratories. The program is supported through the generosity of U.S. donors, particularly the Florence Gould Foundation in New York.

Guided by the institute’s administration, which seeks to develop international scientific exchanges to ensure the vitality and quality of Institut Pasteur labs, this program is for American citizens only and does not apply to candidates already in France. The grants are $70,000 ($55,000 fellowship plus $15,000 bench fees to support the research) per year for a term of three years. Attention will be given to the Pasteur Foundation Fellows so that their time on the Parisian campus of the Institut Pasteur is an enriching experience not only scientifically, but also personally and culturally.

All applications must be processed and endorsed by the MIT Distinguished Fellowships Office, 12-189. You should review this site and the official Pasteur web site, and then consult with the MIT Foreign Scholarship Committee for more information.
