The School of Science is pleased to offer the
"Infinite Mile Outstanding Achievement"
award. Rules and guidelines for this award
is discussed in detail below.
The Rewards and Recognition "Infinite Mile Outstanding
Achievement" program is a mechanism to recognize and reward MIT employees.
The program is meant to provide opportunities to recognize and reward
members of MIT's administrative staff, support staff, service staff,
sponsored research staff and other academics (i.e. postdocs or graduate
students) for accomplishments beyond their typical assigned roles and
duties. HHMI employees may be nominated for this award however, they
are not eligible to receive the cash portion of the award. The School
of Science reward will be a financial supplement ($1,750.00)
that is expressly distinct from base pay and yearly performance reviews.
We are pleased to announce the call for nominations
for the 2007 "Infinite Mile Outstanding Achievement" Award. Nominations
will be due on Wednesday , February 21, 2006.
The following guidelines should be followed when nominating someone
for this award:
- Nominators may be peers or
supervisor of a nominee (i.e. a support staff person may
nominate another support staff person, service person, or
sponsored research staff in an area, an administrative
staff person may nominate a staff person, support staff,
srs, or service staff, a faculty member may nominate a
staff person, support staff, srs or service staff). A
detailed letter of support along with the nomination
cover sheet should be sent to the department/laboratory
respective Administrative Officer / Personnel
Administrator for departmental review and signature. One
(1) well-written letter with detailed examples is
sufficient for each nominee with a maximum of 3 letters
per nominee allowed.
- Previous Infinite Mile Award
winners will not be eligible to receive another award for
1 year from the date of the first award
received.
- All nominations approved and signed by the
department/lab AO/PA or DH/LD should be forwarded to D. Martin (6-123).
- Support letters that nominate
Administrative Officers may be sent directly to D.
Martin, in 6-123.
- The R&R Selection Committee
will make the final selections from the
School wide nominations. Winners will be notified by the R&R Administrator.
- All winners nominated for a team award will
each receive the full $1,750.00 award.
- An Awards Celebration will be held on April
23
, 2007 (2:00-4:00 p.m.) to honor and publicly recognize
the awardees. The location is 68-180 (Biology Bldg).
The proposed nominations should
discuss in detail one or more of the following criteria
areas. Please give specific examples to support your
nominations.
- Innovation and Creativity - The
proposed nominee applies analytical thinking and/or
creative problem solving that significantly improves
current department/laboratory practices, advances
organizational learning, tests or pilots new ways of
doing things and encourages others to be innovative
and/or to think creatively.
- Results - The proposed nominee
implements solutions that result in desirable and
unexpected outcomes, such as productivity improvement,
improved customer service, significant costs savings,
proactively takes the time to address and resolve issues,
and encourages others to solve problems.
- Communication and Collaboration
- The proposed nominee communicates and collaborates with
others in a way that provides clear direction regarding a
specific project, initiative or program resulting in
better understanding and/or better coordination.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with adverse situations,
a willingness to compromise and encourages others to also
communicate and collaborate.
- Community - The proposed
nominee demonstrates exceptional dedication and loyalty
to the Institute, takes the time to learn more about
other groups, impacts the community by improving (or
simplifying) current practices and/or procedures,
improves service levels such as with a
department/laboratory web site and/or improving customer
service or identifies new constituencies to
serve.
