Backup Childcare and Eldercare Referral Program
Benefits-eligible employees at MIT have access to a backup childcare and eldercare referral program through Parents in a Pinch, Inc. and its partner eldercare organization, HealthWorks. The program provides up to ten referrals annually to screened and trained in-home caregivers when temporary care is needed to cover the work time of the employee.
Backup childcare providers can assist employees when normal childcare or school arrangements are disrupted by school closings, vacations, or provider illness, or when a child is mildly ill. Childcare providers are available to come to the home of the employee, or to the employee’s workplace or meeting place.
Backup eldercare providers can offer companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, or prompts for medications, or accompany an elder to a doctor’s appointment via The Ride or taxicab. Eldercare providers are available to come to the home of the employee or to the home of the employee’s elder.
MIT employees can request up to ten childcare and/or eldercare referrals annually without being charged any registration or placement fees. Employees are responsible for paying the caregivers the established hourly rate, which is $13.00 per hour for eldercare and $15.00 per hour for childcare (with a minimum of four hours per day).
Care is available any time of day or night, any day of the week. When service is needed, MIT employees call Parents in a Pinch at 617-739-5437 x2, or toll-free 800-688-4697, during call hours (Monday – Thursday, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM; Friday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and Sunday, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM).
Employees must pre-register for this service through the Center for Work, Family and Personal Life; please complete the pre-registration form on-line, or call the Center at 617-253-1592 for additional assistance.
