A calm day at Halibut Point

Description

Halibut Point stands out among dive spots for several reasons. First, the walk from the parking lot to the shore is about 1/2 mile. Second, the point is exposed from all directions but the west, which means that it usually has more surf than other places. However, the same granite was previously quarried from this point offers good visibility and a home for large anenome and lobster alike between the huge underwater boulders. The vista from this point is among the best on Cape Ann as well.

In addition to the parking lot at Halibut Point state park, there is also another parking lot called "Searocks Parking" slightly past the Halibut Point lot. Searocks is actually property of the Town of Rockport, but is adjacent to Halibut Point State Park. By searocks, the bottom is sloping granite with few large boulders. The crevices in the rock provide shelter for lobster and small fish. While the underwater scenery here is not as dramatic as at the point, the walk is a little shorter.
